After the first day of filming, we continued our success on day two. Today, we shot two different scenes that showcased the passage of time. We filmed at my house because it was easier to get the props we needed without having to deal with other people that may have interfered with the filming process. In these scenes, Joshua was the only actor. Aidan and I directed him and took turns filming. It was very important for us to get a tilt shot today, so we tried many different ways to accomplish that.
In the two scenes we filmed, Joshua had to be in two different costumes. All the costumes we used were everyday clothing as most Beats ads showcase the subject during everyday life or doing something they are known for. Our interpretation of this led to basketball, as that is Joshua's main hobby. It proved very difficult to film him in a way that was natural. We got many takes of him dribbling and shooting, but many were not very valuable. Eventually, we were able to produce a take that was worthy of being put in the final project.
The next scene we filmed was of Joshua getting in a truck. Joshua changed costumes for the scene to clearly show the passage of time. We waited until it was dark out to film the scene. This shot had its challenges as well. Because it was dark out, we had to use the flash from our phones and keep the car's headlights on to get enough lighting. Holding up a phone with one hand while filming horizontally with the other was no easy task, but the takes that resulted were perfect for what we were trying to do. Despite all the work behind the scenes, the shot ended up being very natural - exactly as it was intended. This was not an accident, we took maybe a dozen takes of Joshua just getting into the car. Though it caused frustration, the end result was well worth it.
At the end of the day, we had all the shots we needed to begin the editing process.
